GRANT COUNTY, Wash. – Grant County deputies are warning locals about a scam caller claiming to be a sergeant with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller claims that you must call him about “a contact order that requires an immediate response.” He says that it’s “imperative” that you call.

Deputies say that if you do call him back the scammer will try to get you to share your personal information.

The sheriff’s office says they will never call you on the phone and:

• ask you to transfer money to a new account to help catch a fraudster at your bank.

• ask for your card PIN or your online banking details.

• ask you to send money anywhere, for any reason.

• send someone to your home to collect cash or personal information.

• ask you to buy anything on your card, and then hand it over to them for safekeeping.

• threaten you with arrest for failing to comply with any of the things they’ve asked you to do.

• say they’re going to arrest you because of an overdue payment or anything similar or rush you into taking action.

Deputies say if you get any of these questions just hang up.
