SPOKANE, Wash. — A man was arrested after a domestic violence incident turned into a shooting in Spokane.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), deputies responded to the 5800 block of South Palouse Highway for a reported domestic violence incident around 9:40 a.m. on March 20.

SCSO said the caller told police that 42-year-old Nicholas S. Taylor walked into the home she was staying at with a hammer. She said she was grabbed by the arm as Taylor tried to force her to leave with him.

The caller broke free from Taylor, who SCSO said was still armed with a hammer. Another person in the home shot Taylor in the leg, and he fled the scene in his car.

Around 9:45 a.m., AMR crews responded to a parking lot at 57th Avenue and South Regal Street for a man with a gunshot wound. Taylor was taken to the hospital for additional medical care.

SCSO said through the investigation, law enforcement learned the victim had a domestic violence protection order against Taylor, who they believe lives in the Tri-Cities area.

The victim and the man who fired the shot cooperated with investigators and were released without charges.

Taylor was released from the hospital and booked into the Spokane County Jail on first-degree burglary, second-degree kidnapping, second-degree assault, and violation of a protection order with assault charges.
