PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State head coach Kyle Smith will be leaving Pullman to coach at Stanford after a historic basketball season with the Cougars.

Multiple sources have confirmed the reports, with Stanford taking to Instagram on Monday to welcome Smith by saying, “Got our guy – welcome to the farm, Kyle Smith.”

Coach Smith ends his Cougar career after WSU’s best season in 16 years, as they made the NCAA Tournament and tied program records. The announcement comes after WSU fell to the strong 2-seed Iowa State in the second round of the tournament on Saturday.

Smith led the team to an impressive 25-10 record this year and even earned the Pac-12 Conference Coach of the Year award.

Smith said in a statement “The opportunity to serve as the head men’s basketball coach at Stanford is a dream come true, and I want to thank Bernard Muir for entrusting me with this opportunity.”

“From my perspective, Stanford has the resources and reputation to attract the ideal student-athlete who is seeking the character development aspects of what our basketball program will offer,” said Smith.
