1 person dead after SWAT stand off and house fire in Coeur d’Alene

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – One person is dead after a SWAT standoff and house fire in Coeur d’Alene.

According to Coeur d’Alene Police, officers responded to a call about gunshots being fired near North 9th Street and West Spokane Avenue around 2:00 p.m. They found a man outside a home with a rifle slung on his back who refused to cooperate with the officers on the scene, retreating into his house.

SWAT arrived on the scene, trying to get the man to cooperate. According to officers, they saw that the house was on fire, and the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department was called to put out the fully engulfed fire.

Upon further investigation, detectives discovered one dead person inside the home. Detectives are currently investigating the incident.

A police situation unfolded in Coeur d’Alene near Bryan Playfield Sunday afternoon.

A SWAT vehicle and deputies carrying guns could be seen stationed at the intersection of Spokane Avenue and North 9th Street.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, a house was set on fire and deputies are now establishing a SWAT standoff perimeter around the home.
