POST FALLS, Idaho —A Post Falls teen involved in a shooting has been indicted by a grand jury on assault to commit murder charges.
After a further investigation and looking at surveillance video, a grand jury convened and issued an arrest warrant for 17-year-old Ashlan Hjelmstrom.
According to a news release from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office along with members from the Coeur d’Alene Police Community Action Team (CAT) and U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), served an arrest warrant for Hjelmstrom for Assault with intent to commit Murder, Unlawful discharge of a firearm, Concealment of evidence, Conspiracy to commit murder and Aggravated battery.
Hjelmstrom is accused of shooting at a man near Upriver Drive and Highway 95 in Coeur d’Alene back in April. He was involved with 18-year-old Devin Spring, who was arrested for aggravated assault.
Hjelmstrom was taken into custody and booked into Region 1 Juvenile Detention Center without incident. He is being charged as an adult.
Investigators said everyone involved knew each other.
