18 acre brush fire near Chattaroy contained, nearby streets reopened

CHATTAROY, Wash. – The brush fire near Chattaroy has been contained to 18 acres of land, according to Spokane County Fire District 4.

Firefighters report that there has been little to no damage to nearby property but they are working on putting out hot spots. Roads near the area have been reopened according to Spokane County Fire District 4.

UPDATE 3:01 P.M.

A brush fire near Chattaroy has burned five acres of land, with firefighters from Spokane County Fire District 4 (SCFD 4) battling the fire.

According to SCFD 4, the fire originated in the vicinity of East Big Meadows Road and extended into a junkyard containing cars and tires.

SCFD 4 has confirmed no reported injuries, and they are making significant progress in containing the fire, aided by Spokane Fire District 9 and the Washington Department of Natural Resources.

Firefighters from County 4 have reported ongoing road closures on East Big Meadows Road and East Singletree Avenue, and the fire has not damaged any buildings or nearby structures.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
