SPOKANE, Wash. — Two people were displaced after a late-night fire in Spokane on Saturday.

The Spokane Fire Department (SFD) responded to the 500 block of South Elm Street on June 8 around 11:45 p.m. Crews arrived and observed smoke coming from the roof. Initially, fire crews believed there was smoke in just one unit but discovered heavy flames from the attic and knee wall spaces on the second floor.

Everyone inside the building evacuated, and the fire was knocked down within an hour of first responders arriving.

An investigation determined an overloaded circuit in the building’s historic wiring caused the fire. Damages are estimated at $200,000, with $100,000 in property saved. No one was injured by this fire.

The American Red Cross will assist the two people displaced by this incident.
