SPOKANE, Wash. – UPDATED at 9:00 a.m. on Jan. 8 – Washington State Patrol provided an update on the incident that occurred when a car traveling southbound on Espanola Road failed to stop at a stop sign.
A westbound semi-truck, which had the right of way, collided with the car. The semi-truck came to a stop 1,000 feet from the intersection after the collision.
The car became stuck under the semi-truck and had three people inside. One teen managed to escape and sustained broken bones.
However, the adult driver and another teen were trapped under the semi and required extraction. The driver and the teen who were trapped are in critical condition.
Authorities have notified the family of those affected, and the victims have been transported to the hospital.
The highway remains closed and no update on the opening time has been given.
UPDATED at 7:30 a.m. on Jan. 8 – US-2 is now closed in both directions due to the crash.
