SPOKANE, Wash. — Two Spokane high schools will open new health centers, providing students access to medical and behavioral health services.

Through a partnership with CHAS Health, clinics will be placed in Shadle Park High School and North Central High School. The goal is to provide accessible healthcare to students with or without insurance while limiting parents’ time off when their child needs medical treatment. Parents will be able to have full access to their child’s care.

“As a provider at CHAS Health’s school-based health clinics, I see firsthand how life-changing this type of care is for students and their families,” said Jeff Haward, Pa-C. “We provide accessible physical and mental health services where students spend most of their time – at school.”

Each clinic cost around $300,000, paid through a partnership with the City of Spokane and SPS Annual Capital Project Funding. The city also agreed to pay for about half the cost of the facilities, while CHAS Health will provide operational equipment and staffing.

On-campus health centers are familiar to Spokane Public Schools. In 2020, Rogers High School opened a clinic run by CHAS Health, which SPS said was a huge success.

“In the past 12 months, the CHAS Health at Rogers High School Clinic has served more than 650 individuals through 1840 visits, meeting the medical and behavioral health needs of each patient,” SPS said.

The Rogers, Shadle Park and North Central clinic hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. year-round, except for federal holidays.
