SPOKANE, Wash. — Two women were arrested and charged for felony assault after a fight that escalated into a stabbing in north Spokane Saturday night.

On Jan. 13 around 8:20 p.m., Spokane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a possible assault in the 7500 block of north Cedar Road.

The caller told the dispatcher that a woman who appeared to be intoxicated was told to leave. She returned to the area and smashed a door/window and hit another woman with a “crowbar.”

As deputies arrived on scene, they found that the woman who was asked to leave was 22-year-old Valaina I. Waagenaar, but she left before they arrived.

Through investigation and talking to witnesses, they found that Waagenaar was asked to leave. But she returned a short time later with a crowbar or tire iron which was used to damage the door. An altercation began between Waagenaar and 25-year-old Taylor R. Cooper Elliott who was hit with the weapon.

Witnesses separated these women, but Elliott went inside her home and approached Waagenaar with a knife. A fight ensued and resulted in Elliott stabbing Waagenaar with a knife.

Both received medical attention on scene for their injuries. Both Waagenaar and Elliott were booked into Spokane County Jail for felony assault. Waagenaar was also charged for felony malicious mischief for the property damage she caused.

Both are currently in custody with their bond set at $7,500.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Check back for updates.
