NAPLES, Idaho – A man died in a three-car crash yesterday evening near Naples involving a semi-truck.

According to the Idaho State Police Department (ISP), the incident occurred on Saturday, June 29, around 5 p.m. on U.S. Highway 95 near milepost 497 northbound, near Naples. A 24-year-old Canadian man was driving the semi-truck. When he braked to avoid stopped vehicles, the driver suddenly lost control, causing the semi-truck to skid into the southbound lane and crash head-on with two passenger cars.

The first car, an SUV, was driven by a 73-year-old man and a 71-year-old woman in the passenger seat, both from Boundary County, according to ISP. The man succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the female passenger was airlifted to Kootenai Medical Hospital.

The second passenger car was driven by a 33-year-old man from Athol, who sustained minor injuries and was discharged by medics. The semi-truck driver emerged uninjured.

ISP confirmed that all individuals involved were wearing seatbelts and that the highway remained fully blocked for nearly five hours.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to ISP.
