3 houses burn down in Orondo fueled by intense wind

ORONDO, Wash. – Three families are without homes after 30-mile-per-hour winds ripped through Washington, fueling the flames.

Residents in the Sun Cove Community in Orondo called 911 after they smelled smoke and noticed a fire burning in their permanently installed trailer on Sunday.

The fire quickly spread due to the high winds, reaching a nearby fence, shed, a neighbor’s trailer, and then the neighbor’s house.

Firefighters responded to the fire within seven minutes, but the flames had already engulfed the house and both trailers and had begun to burn a fourth home.

The fourth home was significantly damaged, but firefighters were able to knock down the flames before it became fully engulfed.

No one was injured in the fire, but two rescue cats are still being searched for.

The Douglas County Fire Department was working on a wildland fire simultaneously and credited the work of all the fire departments in Chelan and Douglas counties for their efforts.
