6-time felon arrested on drug and firearm charges near Spokane Falls Community College

SPOKANE, Wash. – A 6-time convicted woman was recently arrested after Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop and found a loaded gun and drugs in her car.

Sommer Smith, 39, was arrested on Tuesday near Whistalks Way and Elliot Drive after officers stopped her for not having a valid driver’s license.During the stop, a glass pipe with white residue fell out of the glovebox while she was searching for her ID. Smith handed the pipe to police and claimed ownership of it.Officers also noticed a box of ammunition near the driver’s seat, and Smith quickly interjected that she had a gun under the passenger seat.Smith, being a 6-time convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing a gun.Officers detained Smith and the female passenger in her car while they obtained a search warrant.The female passenger was released after police determined she had not committed any crimes.After searching Smith’s car, deputies found a loaded pistol and magazine, ammunition, pipes, a scale, empty plastic bags, bags containing alleged meth and a bag of Xanax pills.Smith then disclosed to police that she sells small amounts of drugs to her friends and that the gun was for her safety.She was transported to Spokane County Jail and booked on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.Her bond was set at $2,500 on Wednesday.
