SANDPOINT, Idaho – A 72-year-old man was found dead at Schweitzer ski resort on Monday after his body was discovered by ski patrol.
The Spokesman review says a guest assisted ski patrol in locating the man after he went missing shortly after noon on Monday.
The victim’s name and cause of death have not been released. The Bonner County coroner pronounced him dead at the resort’s base area.
Schweitzer Ski Resort confirmed the incident on social media, expressing their condolences.
“It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the recent loss of a cherished member of our Schweitzer family,” Schweitzer said.
“A long-time Schweitzer pass holder tragically passed away following a snowboarding incident in Outback Bowl. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the victim during this incredibly difficult time,” they said on social media.
The resort emphasized the importance of community and safety amid the incident.
“As our mountain community comes together to process this tragedy, we encourage everyone to remain vigilant and look out for one another. Safety is a shared responsibility, and together we can honor the memory of those we’ve lost by prioritizing care and awareness on the mountain,” Schweitzer added.
The investigation into the incident continues, and further details have yet to be disclosed.
