CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. — Nine hikers were rescued in Chelan County after a 300-acre wildfire shut down Lakeshore Trail this weekend.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the fire started 30 miles up Lake Chelan near Pioneer Creek and was only accessible by boat.

The Central Washington Interagency Communication Center (CWICC) reported that the fire crossed the Lakeshore trail, where several hikers were. One of the hikers was reportedly injured and near the fire, but helicopter crews were unable to get further information.

Chelan County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol responded, rescuing seven hikers at Moore Point. There was a remaining 16-year-old hiker who was separated from his family and was reportedly injured.

A report by Global Rescue found that two hikers near the Meadow Creek area needed medical assistance.

The 16-year-old was found and was reunited with his family.

The Pioneer Fire is burning 300 acres and is not contained at this time. Level 3 (go now!) evacuations remain in place for those living in the Rex Creek area. Level 3 means go now, anyone in the Rex Creek area is in immediate danger. DNR asks residents to follow your plans and leave even if you don’t see the danger.

Level 1 (be ready!) evacuations are in place at all the docks between Canoe Creek and Meadow Creek.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Check back for updates.
