The National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) hosts an annual conference called the Forum, which is the largest workforce development conference in the nation. The event brings together attendees from across the country to learn from one another and equip themselves with the tools necessary to meet the challenges of today’s dynamic economic and workforce landscape. This conference is a hub for workforce leaders to thrive and make meaningful connections.
Recently, several members of the Spokane Workforce Council (SWC) and the local workforce development system attended the Forum to network with other local workforce boards from around the country and bring back valuable insights to the Spokane community. SWC’s CEO Mark Mattke was selected to lead the Western Region’s (Region 6) Regional Convening at the conference with a focus on sharing best practices, opportunities for collaboration, and critical issues experienced throughout the following regions: California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Hawaii, Alaska, and Guam.
In addition, SWC’s Chief Operating Officer Dawn Karber, Division Executive of Systems Advancement Kevin Williams, and Communications Manager Victor Rapez-Betty were invited to present at the NAWB Forum, where they shared their knowledge on best practices in media and community partnerships.
This year’s Forum centered on the theme of “The Modern Workforce: Leading by Example, Led by Purpose.” The conference featured a diverse range of topics, including mental health, diversity/equity/inclusion, the state of the workforce, and accessibility.
