COULEE DAM, Wash. – Prescribed burns are planned for the next several weeks throughout the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area.
Burns will take place near Fort Spokane Employee Housing, the Fort Spokane Campground and Boat Launch.
About 50 acres will be affected between April 18 and May 10, though final dates are still tentative. The National Park Service (NPS) stressed that the burn could have noticeable effects for some campers.
“Smoke may settle into the Fort Spokane Campground on the day of ignition and during the nights for up to a week after ignition,” NPS said.
The burns will be monitored by firefighters and will be coordinated under the Guidance for Implementation of Federal Wildland Fire Management Policy.
Additional details on the prescribed burns can be found on the National Parks Service website.
