MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. – The Washington State Veterans Cemetery has announced their plans to hold a Forgotten Heroes interment open to the public on Monday, April 29.
A part of the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA), the cemetery works in collaboration with other veterans service groups, funeral partners, public administrators and citizens to ensure the dignified burial of unclaimed veterans.
Each year, these organizations work to locate and identify unclaimed veterans eligible for burial through researching military service records, according to the WDVA.
In the weeks leading up to the interment, the WDVA will transport the unclaimed veterans’ remains to the cemetery where they will be turned over to the Department of Veterans Affairs through a ceremony.
The final committal service where these individuals will be interred in their final resting place with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 29.
Outside of the Forgotten Heroes interment, the cemetery is open to the public from 8 a.m. to sunset daily.
Pets, in addition to the use of tobacco or vaping products, are prohibited on the premises according to the WDVA’s release.
More information regarding the cemetery and the upcoming interment can be found on the WDVA’s website.
