Spokane County GOP addresses Dave Reichert, Semi Bird controversy

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane County Republican Party responded to controversy surrounding the Washington GOP’s Saturday endorsement of gubernatorial candidate Semi Bird on Tuesday.

Bird ultimately secured the state party’s nomination

Fellow Republican candidate Dave Reichert withdrew his name for consideration

Spokane County Republican Party Chairwoman MJ Bolt criticized media coverage of the convention and argued that the process was orderly.

“Late in the process, the Candidates Committee recommended rescinding their approval of Semi Bird…Despite this, through the proper process and with an overwhelming majority, the delegates reversed the Committee’s ruling,” Bolt said.

Bolt went on to criticize Reichert for withdrawing his name from consideration.

“Unfortunately, Dave Reichert, unseen for the duration of the event, decided to withdraw from the process, citing concerns about the party’s integrity,” Bolt said. “His absence was disappointing for many delegates who supported him.”

Bird and Reichert both intend on appearing on the August 6 primary ballot, meaning two prominent Republican candidates will be considered by voters. As the governor’s race continues, Bird appears to have the strong support of the Spokane County GOP.
