EVERETT, Wash. — Three babies overdosed on fentanyl in four days, leaving one dead in Everett.

The first incident occurred on April 20, around 7:45 a.m. The Everett Police Department (EPD) confirmed first responders were called to East Marine View Drive in the Delta Neighborhood. EPD confirmed crews found an 11-month-old unresponsive, and before firefighters could arrive, the baby was given Narcan.

Firefighters provided medical aid to the baby, who was transported and released from the hospital.

On April 24, EPD said officers responded to an apartment building on Broadway in the Port Gardner neighborhood around 11:45 p.m. EPD said a six-month-old was experiencing difficulty breathing. By the time firefighters arrived, they were unresponsive.

The baby was given immediate medical care, including Narcan and was transported to the hospital. EPD confirmed the baby remains at the hospital in stable condition.

Also on April 24, EPD said they received a call about a 13-month-old not breathing. First responders arrived at the Westmont neighborhood off West Casino Road around 1:30 p.m. and immediately began life-saving measures.

The baby was transported to the hospital, where they died from their injuries.

“The City of Everett is deeply concerned about the increasing fentanyl overdoses that involve young children. Even a small amount of fentanyl residue can be lethal to children, as the drug can be more potent to a baby or toddler’s smaller body and lack of opioid tolerance. Pills can look like candy to children, especially when they’re brightly colored,” EPD said.

EPD is investigating all three incidents and will release more information when available.
