OLYMPIA, Wash. – As many as 60 million Americans are in jeopardy of losing internet access after Wednesday, May 1, due to a government program running out of funds.

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) was established during the COVID-19 pandemic to help rural and underserved areas gain internet access.

A bill on capitol hill to extend the ACP, which is close to completely running out of funds, has stalled despite bipartisan support.

According to the Universal Service Administration, more than 358,000 people in Washington state and 54,000 people in Idaho who currently benefit from the program may be unable to afford internet access after May 1.
