NEWMAN LAKE, Wash. — A man is missing and a home was completely destroyed in a fire in Newman Lake.

According to the Newman Lake Fire Department (NLFD), crews responded to reports of a house fire just after 2 p.m. on April 30. When they arrived, they saw the home was fully engulfed and called for additional units.

NLFD said a man who lives in the home is missing, but due to the extreme heat, crews may not be able to conduct a search until Wednesday morning.

At least 40 firefighters from Newman Lake, Hauser and Spokane Valley assisted fighting the blaze.

Newman Lake Fire Chief Daron Bement said the home is destroyed and is a pile of rubble.

While reports to firefighters indicated someone was inside the home, it is unclear if anyone was. The Spokane Valley Fire Department will conduct an investigation.
