2 teen suspects arrested for drive-by-shooting in Chief Garry Park

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Police Department (SPD) arrested two teenagers after .

Spokane police responded to a report of a shooting in Chief Garry Park on Sinto Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on April 30.

Police said they learned that several young people were involved in an argument near the southwest part of the park.

SPD said a car pulled up, and two men were exiting the car. The two suspects then headed toward the heard argument. Shots were fired, and the two men from the car returned to it and drove away. Shell casings were located in the grass.

Police determined the car’s owner and learned from the suspect’s parents that their teenage son had the car.

SPD officers were able to locate the vehicle at East Euclid Avenue and North Crestline Street, pinned the car, and detained the two men inside the vehicle without incident.

Police found at least one gun inside the car. SPD also developed probable cause to arrest Hunter T. Simmons, an 18-year-old and a 17-year-old teen. Both face charges of Drive-By Shooting.

Police continue to investigate whether other persons were involved in this incident.

In an email, Garrett Jones, interim City of Spokane Administrator, said to NonStop Local.

“The shooting at Chief Garry Park last night was scary and very unsettling. Safety is always the top priority, and we work closely with Spokane Police,” Jones said. “…. In the short term, we’re moving youth baseball away from Chief Garry Park for the remainder of the spring season, and looking for alternative school/park locations, and working with Spokane Police on public safety emphasis patrols.”
