SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office said that the two officers who shot and killed a man in a 2023 shooting were justified.

The Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office has declared that deputies Brent Miller and Matt Peterson were justified in their use of deadly force when . The officers, stationed in their patrol car at Rodeway Inn, 6309 E. Broadway Avenue, were originally seeking another suspect, Asher Sorenson, with an active arrest warrant.

On June 4, around midnight, the deputies encountered a man, identified as Bjorn Manycolors, who bore a resemblance to Sorenson. Despite being asked for identification and his name, Manycolors refused to cooperate, leading deputies to attempt his apprehension, deemed justified by the prosecuting office.

During the altercation, Manycolors fired two rounds at the deputies and two more as he attempted to flee. In response, deputies returned fire, striking Manycolors, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Subsequent investigation revealed Manycolors had two active arrest warrants.

“Under these facts and circumstances, the use of deadly force was authorized. Both Deputies were placed in fear for their lives and fired in defense of self and each other. Therefore, no charges will be filed against either Deputy in this incident.” Said the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office
