SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Firefighters along with a local mom and her daughter saved a brood of baby ducklings after they had fallen and gotten stuck in a storm drain.
The teen and her mother called Spokane Fire District 9 after they noticed that a mother duck and her babies were circling a storm drain in a North Spokane parking lot and were worried for their safety being in such a busy area.
The teen and her mom then returned home after calling the fire department but said they had to come back because they felt like “something was wrong”.
When they returned the mother duck was waiting for her 10 baby ducklings that had fallen into the storm drain and were trapped.
Firefighters worked alongside the mother and daughter to flush the ducks out of the storm drain with a slow and controlled water flow into a grassy area.
Nearby storm drains were covered by mesh netting to prevent any more trapped animals.
The ducklings were safely returned to a nearby pond.
