SPOKANE, Wash. – Former US Representative for Wyoming Liz Cheney (R) will be the featured speaker at the upcoming Whitworth President’s Leadership Forum.
Cheney holds one of the most complicated legacies in contemporary American politics. Her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney (R), fundamentally reshaped US global policy and was a prominent architect of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
During her ascension to the sole US Congressional seat in Wyoming, Liz Cheney followed her father’s brand of conservative policymaking.
However, she drew the ire of Trump-aligned Republicans for opposing former President Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election and participating in an investigation into the attempted insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021.
Cheney was punished by voters for defying Trump, losing the 2023 Republican primaries in the state where her family is a political dynasty.
This fascinating history has made Cheney a particularly unique commentator, who can explain what it feels like to be disliked by leaders in both major US political parties from experience.
Whitworth President Scott McQuilkin looks forward to hosting Cheney on Oct. 9 and looks forward to learning from her perspective.
“Given her proximity to all things Washington D.C.-related, she possesses an especially uncommon insider’s perspective. Hers will be a timely and informative visit to Whitworth and to the Inland Northwest,” McQuilkin said.
Given that Cheney will be visiting the Lilac City just a month before the 2024 presidential election, the event will certainly offer timely commentary on current events.
