OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington Governor Jay Inslee (D) welcomed two new members to the United States Climate Alliance Executive Committee on Thursday.
Inslee is a founding member of the organization, which is composed of 24 governors across the US and focuses on responding to the climate emergency by achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
The two new members of the board are New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) and New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D).
Hochul and Lujan Grisham will co-chair the committee, marking the first time that the climate alliance has been co-led by women according to the organization.
Inslee and alliance co-founder California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) to prevent further ecological damage by carbon emissions.
Given that Inslee is not running for reelection and Newsom is considered a 2028 presidential contender amongst Democratic party leaders, leadership of the Executive Committee has now definitively changed hands from two west coast governors to the leaders of New York and New Mexico.
