SPOKANE, Wash. – A woman was arrested after reportedly threatening to place a bomb in the Spokane County Courthouse the day before Bloomsday.
According to a PC Affidavit, suspect Samantha Lee Brown, 25, of Airway Heights, called the Regional Crisis Line, claiming she intended to plant a bomb near the Spokane County Courthouse around 6 p.m. on May 4. Brown stated she would place the bomb in a friend’s car, describing it as a jug filled with combustibles, a rope and a cloth fuse.
During the call, Brown initially denied possessing a bomb when questioned, later stating she didn’t mean to disclose that information and remarked, “She was going to make a car go boom.”
Given the proximity of the Bloomsday Race course to the courthouse the following day, deputies expressed concern. However, the Spokane County Explosives Unit (EDU) had already scheduled a sweep of the area for explosives before the race, confirming there was no bomb.
On May 9, deputies apprehended Brown without incident, and she was subsequently booked into Spokane County Jail for Threats to Bomb or Injure Property without further incident. Her bond is set at $50,000.
