Spokane, WA. – Our neighbors struggling to put food on the table just got a helping hand, actually, a lot of helping hands, thanks to two groups coming together in Downtown Spokane for a community service project.
“In Spokane County alone, there’s 55,000 people that are food insecure. They don’t know where their next meal is coming from and it’s not just the homeless population,” said Generation Alive’s Executive Director, JJ Vancil.
JJ said that high need in for food assistance in our community inspired his Generation Alive nonprofit to partner with Keller Williams Realty for May 9th’s “RED Day.”
“We’re partnering with Keller Williams Realty to pack 10,000 meals,” JJ said. “Allthe food they’re packing goes down to Second Harvest.”
Many hands inside Flatstick Pub Thursday made for lighter work towards that 10,000 meal goal. People taking part in “RED Day” helped measure out and pack the meals into boxes bound for the local food bank.
“The food is actually all sourced locally,” JJ added.
Those involved in the project banged on a gong and cheered every time one box was filled with food, ready to be sent to Second Harvest.
Shane Bangle said this was the perfect was for Keller Williams to honor one of the group’s founders, Moe, who liked to give back to the community.
“It’s a perfect example for us to get together, have a little bit of community, while also giving back to the community,” Shane said.
