SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane native and astronaut Anne McClain is going to be the Parade Grand Marshal at the 2024 ‘Dare to Dream’ Armed Forces Torchlight Parade.
Junior Journalist Chloe Bockelie and our Kalae Chock just got back from the Johnson Space Center in Houston where Chloe got to interview Ann.
Ann introduced Chloe to three fellow astronauts and invited her to sit at the table as the crew was briefed for training that day on a replica of the International Space Station.
In a sit down interview with Anne, Chloe shared her dream of becoming an astronaut.
“I think being able to believe in yourself is a really big part of being able to get wherever you wanna go,” Chloe told Anne. “So, yeah, like you said, that’s very important to have someone who also believes in you.”
“Yeah. And even like, do you have a best friend? Ok. Best friends are the best, right? At every phase of my life, I’ve had this best friend that when I was like, ‘oh man, forget this. This is like this is crazy. This is way too hard.’ Like they remind you who you are. So pick your friends very carefully, make sure you’re picking friends that really see the best in you and encourage you. And if you start to realize that you’re hanging out with friends that maybe aren’t encouraging you, then you can choose not to spend as much time with them, right? Like surround yourself with the people that really make you feel like you and see the best in you and don’t ever believe it. If somebody tells you your dream is silly, your dream is silly. So is mine. But look where I’m at. All, right?” Anne shared.
