KELLOGG, Idaho – The Kellogg School District is reducing the number of days students attend classes to just four per-week.
The idea was proposed in a May newsletter sent to parents.
It is not clear whether funding issues could be a factor in reducing the number of days students learn each year in Kellogg. The district mentioned that the change could reduce chronic absenteeism, but could also pose a challenge for working parents.
“The district recognizes the need for robust community engagement and input to ensure that any proposed changes align with the diverse needs and preferences of students, families, and staff members,” the district said before the final approval of the change.
Over 2,000 schools have transitioned to a four-day school week as of 2023 according to an Oregon State University study.
