WENATCHEE, Wash. — The Wenatchee School District plans to close Columbia Elementary after financial woes.

This decision will eliminate more than 60 positions, including teachers across the district. According to the district, this decision comes from the decline in enrollment, which has been going down since 2015. As a result, it plans to cut $9 million from the budget.

Students in Columbia will be moved to neighboring Washington and Lincoln elementary schools.

The decision to shut the school’s doors was made during a meeting last week.
