COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Human rights advocates and community leaders will honor Anne Frank on what would have been her 95th birthday June 12.

The Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations will host the luncheon, where 100-year-old holocaust survivor Carla Peperzak will be in attendance.

Peperzak is the eponym of Peperzak Middle School, where students painted a mural of her in early May to celebrate her impact on the community.

The luncheon will feature speakers Dr. Mary Noble and Dr. Hershel Zellman, who are both active members of Temple Beth Shalom.

Zellman is a cofounder of Human Rights Spokane and cowrote a 2022 Spokesman Review guest editorial criticizing racist remarks from the wife of Spokane County Prosecutor Larry Haskell.

In addition to speeches from Noble and Zellman, several local high schoolers will offer presentations on their award-winning essays.

Tickets for the event are $25. More information can be found on the Kootenai County Task Force’s website.
