North Spokane Corridor closes for construction during busy summer month

SPOKANE, Wash. – The addition to the North Spokane Corridor has been open for just over a year and now a section of it will close during a busy summer month.

The corridor has been open since November 16, of 2023 and The Washington State Department of Transportation said that because of the late fall opening not all the construction was completed.

To complete the remaining necessary construction, WSDOT will close Wellesley Avenue between Market Street and Freya Street starting Tuesday, May 28.

They also will close the northbound lanes of the North Spokane Corridor between Wellesley Avenue and the Freya Street interchange.

The hopeful reopening date of the corridor is Friday, June 28.

During the closure they will be fixing drainage, add striping, paint the on-ramp barrier, install Children of the Sun medallions, overhead bridge work, pave and add signage.

Drivers who travel regularly on Wellesley Avenue between Market Street and Freya Street can detour via either Euclid Avenue to the south or Francis Avenue to the north.

Drivers who travel on North Spokane Corridor south to the Wellesley Avenue interchange will be detoured off the freeway at Freya Street through the roundabout south toward Francis Avenue.
