SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Fire Department determined the cause of the fire that destroyed the U.S. Bank on Spokane’s South Hill.
The fire was caused by heat tape found in the gutter downspouts of the building. Investigators are unsure if the electrical system malfunctioned or overheated from not being turned off.
The fire that tore through the building caused a collapse on one Spokane firefighter, but there were no reported injuries.
According to our partners at the Spokesman Review, the bank is unable to access the safe deposit boxes but assures customers their money is still safe.
The U.S. Bank communications manager said he understands the frustration and will provide an update soon.
