University of Idaho volleyball head coach resigns amid abuse allegations

MOSCOW- Idaho. – Chris Gonzalez, the head coach of the University of Idaho volleyball program, has resigned following public allegations of bullying and physical abuse against him.

According to the University of Idaho, Gonzalez resigned on May 31. With his departure, the investigation into several student athletes’ mistreatment of team members has ended.

as the university probed complaints brought forth by volleyball student-athletes. The university stated upon learning of the complaints in November 2023.

In early 2024, a case manager was assigned to the student-athletes. The university mentioned that this case manager attended all team activities where Gonzalez was present, as well as many others where he was not. Additionally, the school said they provided the students with mental health and support resources.

“With this resolution, we look forward to the volleyball program rebuilding an environment in which our student-athletes can be comfortable and succeed both on the court and off,” the University stated in their announcement.
