Severely injured motorcyclist rescued by Spokane Regional Air Support

COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Spokane Rescue 3 successfully rescued a severely injured motorcycle rider following a crash in the area north of Horse Haven Airfield.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), on June 1 at approximately 11:15 a.m., the Spokane Regional Air Support Unit (SRASU) received a request for assistance in evacuating a severely injured motorcycle driver from a remote location in the Coeur d’Alene National Forest.

SCSO reports that the rider had reportedly crashed on a motorcycle, sustaining significant injuries. The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, Kootenai County Fire Rescue and an air ambulance nurse reached the rider’s location and provided medical assistance.

But according to SCSO deputies the tough terrain and the severity of the patient’s injuries, Rescue 3 was needed to safely hoist him off the mountain.

Rescue 3, along with medical emergency teams, successfully hoisted the rider to the helicopter and transported him to Horse Haven Airfield according to deputies. From there, the driver was transferred to an awaiting air ambulance helicopter and flown to the hospital for additional medical care.
