Pride Month is being celebrated across Washington. Here’s where candidates for governor stand on LGBTQ+ issues

OLYMPIA, Wash. – Pride Month celebrations across Washington are planned for this weekend from Seattle to Spokane. Here’s where prominent gubernatorial candidates stand on LGBTQ+ issues ahead of the August statewide primaries.

Bob Ferguson (D)

Attorney General Ferguson has been a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights for over a decade. He supports civil rights protections for queer couples and argued on behalf of a gay couple denied services by a florist in front of the Washington Supreme Court. He has also filed federal lawsuits advocating for transgender legal rights.

Dave Reichert (R)

Former US Congressman Reichert has voiced , though his campaign has clarified that he is not working to roll back marriage equality.

Mark Mullet (D)

Washington State Senator Mark Mullet has positioned himself as a more moderate candidate in the gubernatorial race and has generally focused on economic rather than social issues throughout his campaign. He has voiced his support for protections of LGBTQ+ students.

Semi Bird (R)

Former President Semi Bird has voiced opposition to gender-affirming care for minors and transgender athletes.
