SPOKANE, Wash. — A man is behind bars after he shot someone while livestreaming in downtown Spokane.
Hoyt Webb, 36, was walking near Division and Short on June 7th, filming his surroundings while he claimed to be with “Kootenai County Press.” Webb live-streamed the video on YouTube, and investigators were able to retrieve it with a quick search.
Court documents said Webb could be seen yelling profanities at a man in the 7/11 parking lot and returned to his vehicle.
“It’s gonna be a bad idea if they pull anything on me, ’cause I’m pro second amendment [expletive]. I don’t have a felony, so I can carry a gun, and I have a concealed firearm permit,” Webb said while at his car.
Court documents said the video then shows a gun in Webb’s shoulder holster.
About 11 minutes into the video, court documents said Webb was recording a man walking across the street and approaching him. The man got upset and yelled something at Webb and walked away. The video showed Webb yelling expletives at the man as he walked away.
According to court documents, about 12 minutes into the video, a man starts running at Webb, and instead of retreating, the sound of a pistol being racked was heard.
More people came up and yelled at Webb, so he shouted that he felt threatened. People started to throw rocks at him, but he still did not leave the scene. Court documents said that’s when the sound of a pistol was heard.
Webb then fired a second shot at the victim, who appeared to be holding an empty iced coffee, according to court documents. Webb tries to retreat, but numerous people are yelling at him.
Webb was booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges of first-degree assault; his bond was set for $75,000.
