SEATTLE, Wash. – Bob Ferguson and the Department of Justice are suing Apple for monopolizing the smartphone market.
The lawsuit began back in March, claiming Apple has harmed users by dictating how users, developers, and businesses can use iPhones while keeping prices unfairly high.
An example of how Apple has harmed consumers is by only allowing certain banking apps in the digital wallet, forcing consumers to conform to Apple-approved products Ferguson said.
“An open marketplace encourages competition and creativity,” Ferguson said. “Apple’s monopoly over smartphones pads its profits at the expense of users, developers and businesses. Ending its illegal monopolization over smartphones will level the playing field for everyone.”
In 2023, Apple raked in a net revenue of $383 billion which exceeds that of every other Fortune 500 business.
The federal lawsuit will address many versions of how Ferguson believes Apple violated by protecting their own monopoly and profits.
