Nisqually John Fire burns 1,221 acres, reaches 50% containment

WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. – The Nisqually John Fire has expanded to 1,221 acres, yet fire crews report it is currently 50% contained and look to fully contain the fire today.

According to the Northwest Washington Interagency, wildland crews will look to achieve 100% containment by the end of today, June 16. With moderate temperatures and higher relative humidity, fire activity is expected to remain minimal.

The Interagency noted there may still be isolated pockets of unburned fuel that could ignite and produce smoke briefly.

The Nisqually John Fire started at approximately 8:38 a.m. and .

but have since been lifted. Firefighters confirm all roads and access to the Snake River are open, although residents are advised to avoid these areas.
