SPOKANE, Wash. – The Freya exit on westbound I-90 will be closed one more week as the completion of the project is delayed. The city says the reason for this delay is similar to the last one, at least in part.
Kirstin Davis with the city of Spokane says weather has slowed down construction, which is the same reason it was delayed a few weeks ago. What’s new is some unforeseen necessary work that the city also says is causing this delay.
They didn’t specify exactly what that work is, but we know these intersections are being built with concrete, a more sustainable material for the heavy freight traffic that uses this corridor.
Crews are working to finish the 2nd Avenue side of construction by June 24th. If they are able to, the westbound I-90 Freya exit will open back up and the eastbound on-ramp will be closed coming off of 3rd Avenue.
The city says that ramp will stay closed about as long as the north side has been. Initially, the city expected the north side to take about 10 weeks to complete. If it is finished on June 24th, that will mark 14 weeks until completion.
