OLYMPIA, Wash. – Washington has a persistent gender pay gap. According to the National Women’s Law Center, the state ranks 23rd nationally in pay equity between men and women. A new Washington State Women’s Commission (WSWC) tour is taking aim at that inequality.
Entitled “Activate 3.8: The Pay Equity Tour,” the WSWC will launch a 10-city tour of the state to discuss the economic disparities faced by the state’s 3.8 million women.
“Activate 3.8” will bring together civic and business leaders across the state. WSWC Executive Director Grace Yoo, Washington State Labor Council President April Sims and Employment Security Department Commissioner Cami Feek will all attend the Seattle kick-off event on June 28. Governor Jay Inslee will also be in attendance.
“Our mission? To fully activate the economic potential of 3.8 million Washington women and bring down the gender wage gap in our state,” WSWC said.
The mission of the event reflects Yoo’s experience working both in the public and private sector. Before leading WSWC, she was a US Foreign Service diplomat and then spent time working as a member of a Starbucks corporate team focused on environmental issues.
