SPOKANE, Wash. – A camper caught fire early this morning, resulting in the complete destruction of the trailer.
According to the Spokane Fire Department (SFD), the incident occurred on June 19 at 7:59 a.m. when fire crews responded to reports of a camper fire on East Joseph Avenue.
Upon arrival, Spokane fire crews observed a large column of smoke. Dispatchers from Spokane Regional Emergency Communications had relayed information that two individuals might have been inside the trailer.
Within four minutes of the call, a fire engine reached the scene to find the travel trailer fully engulfed in flames, posing a threat to the nearby primary residence. Firefighters swiftly extinguished the fire, and subsequent searches confirmed that no victims were inside the trailer.
Firefighters later located a resident of the camper who was uninjured. The SFD investigation determined that the fire was accidental, likely caused by improper disposal of smoking materials.
Additionally, Avista Utilities responded to repair a damaged electrical service line to the affected house.
