CLARKSTON, Wash. – Asotin County, Clarkston, and Lewiston firefighters successfully contained a brush fire that threatened homes in Clarkston Heights.

According to Asotin County Fire District #1, multiple 911 calls reported a large wind-driven fire endangering homes near 27th Street and Reservoir Road just before 2 p.m.

Asotin County, Clarkston, and Lewiston fire crews managed to control the fire within half an hour. There were no reported injuries. Firefighters determined the cause of the fire to be sparks from a property owner mowing a dry lot area, igniting the dry grass upon hitting a rock or object.

Chief Noel Hardin of Asotin County Fire District #1 reported, “The fire conditions in the valley had become extreme, with very dry fuel. If you plan to mow in dry grassy areas, it’s advisable to do so early in the day when temperatures are lower and humidity is higher.”
