SPOKANE, Wash,. – The 50th anniversary of Expo ‘74 ran nine weeks and held closing ceremonies on Thursday in the Pavilion. The celebrations included nearly 140 events to celebrate the history and legacy that the world’s fair left on the lilac city.
Matt Santangelo, the program manager for the Expo anniversary, said that the collaboration of so many local partners during this event was truly special. The possibility for these organizations to work together in the future is what Santangelo said will be part of the legacy of the anniversary.
“Creating those conversations among organizations that are doing good work in our community, that’s really the legacy of the 50th anniversary,” Santangelo said.
The closing ceremonies began at 6 p.m. and are capped off with a firework show at 10 p.m.
