CLARKSTON, Wash. – Asotin County Fire District 1 and other county firefighters are battling a structure fire that has spread into the surrounding grasslands.
According to Asotin firefighters, emergency crews responded to a structure fire on Poplar Street in Clarkston late last night. Firefighters were on patrol in the vicinity and arrived at the scene within minutes of the initial report.
Upon arrival, the home was fully engulfed in flames, prompting efforts from Clarkston, Asotin and Lewiston firefighters to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring homes.
In another incident on the 4th of July, Asotin County fire crews responded to a man injured by a mortar-type firework near Lincoln Middle School. The individual was transported to the hospital for treatment of facial injuries.
Additionally, Garfield County Fire District requested assistance for a house fire in Pomeroy, prompting the City of Asotin Fire to dispatch a crew to aid firefighting efforts. The fire is suspected to be fireworks-related.
Firefighters remained at the Poplar fire scene overnight and are expected to continue operations through the morning.
Chief Noel Hardin of Asotin County Fire District expressed gratitude for the efforts of Lewis Clark Valley firefighters in minimizing damage, lamenting the significant impact of the 4th of July celebrations on the community.
Overall, Asotin County Fire District 1 responded to nine fireworks-related incidents on July 4th.
