SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A wanted fugitive is behind bars after an hours-long SWAT standoff in Spokane Valley.

On July 7, around 8:30 p.m., deputies with the Spokane Valley Police Department (SVPD) were surveilling the 7800 block of East Glass Avenue in their search for 40-year-old David P. Haynes.

SVPD said Haynes had a felony warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm, first-degree harassment and threats to kill.

While conducting surveillance, deputies saw Haynes on the property and quickly moved in, setting up a perimeter to prevent him from escaping. A woman was found on the property with Haynes, detained, and quickly released.

Deputies made multiple announcements to Haynes to surrender, but they went unanswered. SWAT was requested to assist due to the severity of Haynes’ crimes.

While SWAT arrived at the scene, Haynes finally surrendered and was taken into custody around 11:35 p.m.

He was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for a new charge of violation of a domestic violence order of protection and his felony warrant.
