SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. —One person is dead following a water rescue on the Spokane River.
According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD), crews responded to a call around 6 p.m. on Saturday for an unconscious victim on a rock in the middle of the river near the Coyote Rock. CPR was performed by a bystander.
After SVFD arrived on scene, crews discovered there were a total of four patients with three people brought to the shore by paddle boards. SVFD said that all patients were not wearing a lifejacket. All patients were transported to the hospital for their injuries.
SVFD along with Spokane County Fire District 9, Spokane Fire Department, AMR, and Spokane Sheriff’s Department and civilians helped with this incident.
With the Spokane River being a popular recreation spot in the summer, SVFD wants to remind everyone that the water is still extremely cold and there are potential dangers below the surface that cannot always be seen.
