SPOKANE, Wash. – A single-car crash on eastbound I-90 caused a traffic backup on Wednesday morning and ended with an arrest.

Law enforcement responded to the scene around 7 a.m., with nearby witnesses reporting that the incident started as a traffic stop and ended with a PIT maneuver.

Washington State Patrol confirmed later Wednesday morning that they attempted to pull over a man for driving 80 mph in a 60-mph zone, and the car sped off, attempting to flee.

The man had an active warrant and a suspended license.

The car traveled westbound and exited near Exit 272 but turned around and got onto I-90 eastbound.

WSP prepared to follow the man and set up spike strips to stop the driver near Argonne.

The driver was stopped before reaching the spikes after hitting the median near the Division Street exit. Part of the car broke off and hit another car across the median.

The driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The man was arrested for attempting to elude police, driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest.

Traffic was backed up on eastbound I-90, with two lanes blocked near the Division Street exit, but has since been cleared.
